Growing Among Trees (GAT)

This project was funded by Defra and the Department for Education and its aim was to support children's health and well-being through nature connection. Led by tree planting charity, Trees for Cities, Nature Nurture was selected to deliver the project in Reading primary schools in collaboration with Green Trees. The project focused on reaching children living in areas of deprivation, aiming to benefit their mental health and well-being as well as inspire increased engagement with learning, to boost attendance and to encourage pro-environmental behaviour

Also as part of this project Green Trees helped to devise the ‘Wild Teaching’ programme - which included delivering outdoor, curriculum linked sessions with three schools (Ranikhet Academy, Palmer Academy and Whitley Park Infants and Junior School) either within their school grounds or hyperlocal green space.

To support teachers beyond the scope of this project we also wrote the ‘Wild Teaching Pack’ which contains curriculum-linked session plans plus lots of useful health and safety advice, masses of evidence to show the wide ranging benefits of learning outside the classroom  and other ‘Top Tips’ and practical advise.
